The phonetic sound /d/ is a voiced alveolar.

voiced = vocal cords vibrate while making this sound

alveolar= touch your tongue to the roof of your mouth, just behind the teeth

word initial /d/ sounds like: down, day, does, dance, duck, doll

middle /d/ sounds like: idea, today, study, address, body, ready

final /d/ sounds like: had, said, could, need, add, food

/d/ in consonant clusters: under, and, hard, old, world, drop
